/boot/initrd-xxxxx.img is the one that is cpio-ed followed by gzip.

U can use "file" utility to discover this yourself:

file /boot/initrd-2.6.2*
/boot/initrd-2.6.20-2943.fc7xen.img:              gzip compressed
data, from Unix, last modified: Tue Dec  4 13:34:24 2007, max
compression

gunzip it and "file" the program again.
