Interpretting the output of an USB Mouse thru "/dev/input/mice"

Hi,

I need some info on the format of the data that I would get when I do a read () on “/dev/input/mice”. Currently I am trying to read from an USB Mouse. I went thru the /include/linux/input.h and found that the returned data from the read () is supposed to be in the form of struct input_event, defined in the same file. However, only 3 bytes are read thru read (). I don’t now of how to interpret these 3 bytes.

Also, how to be sure of the file in the /dev dir represents the pointing device that I am using?

Regards,,

Aravind.
