Hello. I try to build a new kernel in Ubuntu 7.04. I did "make", "make modules_install", "make install" successfully. now i did "update-grub". In fedora, this would be enough. But now in Ubuntu, I see that there is no new initrd.img. and indeed i can't boot into the new kernel.
Ubuntu kernel build scripts are little different. They dont behave the way they do on Fedora. better use the tried and trusted formula. $ make $ make install $ mkinitramfs -o /boot/shining.img 2.6.xxyyz $ manually edit grub. $ Reboot and curse why there is disparity on how kernel should be built across different distributions :-).[just jesting along] HTH Thanks - --psr - -- play the game -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: http://firegpg.tuxfamily.org iD8DBQFGbPvKky6Gd9lpXlERAmGtAJ9QO6Onp1AnHgAZxQKeY1sfduKZ/wCfeSms MZTna4PWq092viZKJGSELhA= =dvIj -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe from this list: send an email with "unsubscribe kernelnewbies" to ecartis@xxxxxxxxxxxx Please read the FAQ at http://kernelnewbies.org/FAQ
