Sorry, I checked:
processor types and features

There is NO "highmem support" there.
The only entries there related to memory are:
Non Uniform Memory Support (NUMA)
and:
Memory Model (Flat Memory).

I am trying it with 2.6.21-rc7.

With which kernel do you see "highmem support"
under "processor types and features" if I may ask?

Config you kenrel to use Highmem.
It can be selected while compiling the kernel under
processor types and features -> highmem support -> make it 4 GB .
