Which GCC is most preferred?

I all along have used GCC 4.1.0 (coming with FC5) to compile kernel. Recently, kernel 2.6.20 reports this version of GCC would mis-compile it. As I feel the latest GCC version would be not very stable, I would like to know which version is most preferred.
