Yes. Many significant differences. 2.5 development started November 23 2001, at the same day as linux-2.5.15 was released. In the beginning bug fixes from 2.5 were backported to 2.4, but that hardly happened later on. Right now the systems are so different that there is no way to figure out what's wrong. BTW: if you find a bug in a 2.4 kernel, I don't think you'll find anybody really interested anymore (unless it's a security bug). 2.4 development is dead, everybody works on 2.6.
