In my oppinion, reading a few good Linux kernel books can give you the
basic understanding.
Tutorials are also nice, but someone needs to write them - if you feel
up to that I'm sure some people would appreciate it :)

Btw, there's lots of documentation also to be found in the
Documentation/ directory of the kernel source itself. The HOWTO
document for instance provides lots of good info and lots of pointers
to more material - not a bad place to start reading.
Also sites like http://kernelnewbies.org/ provide lots of info.
