What I mostly did is:

1) If I know the thread subject then I use google search feature of
searching on the specified site :) (Like what is to write in google
search text box "<string_to_search>"
site:http://mail.nl.linux.org/kernelnewbies/)

2) Just open the archieves of the kernelnewbies and look for the topic
required as I mostly remember that which topics are discussed around
how months ago (like as I mentioned 2 or 3 months back, so you only
need to see some specific number of months archieve) :)

I think, now you might got that how I do search kernelnewbies archive;)
