I assume you installed the kernel-devel rpm and otherwise did not touch
a thing?
(assuming you want to build against your distributions' kernel and not
some self built kernel)
I wanted to install drivers on the stock 2.6.9-11.ELsmp kernel. For that I downloaded the kernel-2.6.9-11.EL.src.rpm, extracted it, applied patches (through rpmbuild -bp) and then moved the source directory to the /usr/src directory. I had a devel RPM already installed, but that was not sufficient to compile the drivers, as it needed more files.

2.6.14.1 was a self built kernel, though.

Is there something wrong in the .config file? "CONFIG_MODVERSIONS" is set.

BTW, the drivers I am compiling are the SCST drivers available on the sourceforge. I explained this problem to them, but got no reply. :-(
