compile warning: could not find versions

Hi,

I am compiling a SCSI target driver for linux under 2.6.9.-11.ELsmp kernel. Everything goes fine except the warning "Could not find versions fo .tmp_versions/scsi_tgt.mod"

Then when I insert the module it behaves erratically. All of a sudden, the module usage becomes "41123456", some big number.

When I compile them on a 26.14.1 kernel, it compiles without any warnings and it works just fine. I am not able to see whats the problem. I have went through the entire google results, some say use a different kernel(which I dont have a choice), some say use another gcc version(I did) etc, but nothing happened.

Somebody please tell me what should I do to avoid this warning. I am suspecting that the erratical module behavior is due to this warning.

Thanks.
_NaGp_.
