as the person who maintained those kernels for several years I have to
disagree with you here. The "difference" you claim is really really
small, esp if you consider that a big chunk of the difference comes from
"other" linus kernels. Eg while the difference to ONE linus kernel may
be reasonably big, if you remove the parts of that difference that come
from later linus kernels (due to bugfix or feature backports) the
difference is actually really small.
