Debug printing and file access

I'm just starting to play around with the kernel.

I want to know how most people do things like print out info and/or
write to a file. I'm interested in playing with network code and wanted to
print some parts of the skb's.

for instance my first thing I tried to do is to print the destination
address of all icmp ECHO_REPLY packets but haven't been able to get this
to work.

Any tutorials on this?

thanks!
