Help! problem on ethernet card

I installed two pieces of Ethernet card in the Sun Ultra 10 workstation. The brand of the Ethernet cards is BenQ. According to the User’s Guide, I used  "linuxconf"

to setup the card by selecting “rtl8139” module.  After activating the network card, I tired to “ping” another machine. Firstly, it can ping successfully. But after receiving five or six ICMP messages, it does not work:  “  ….. Destination Host Unreachable ”.  Then I “ ifdown eth0” and “ifup eth 0”. At first,  I can ping successfully. But after five or six ICMPs, the same error occurs again.  It seems the card is not stable in Sun workstation. I used the same card in my DELL PC (Intel CPU) and it worked well.

can anyone give advice on how to make it work?
