/dev/lp* /dev/ttyS* .. I expect there is a Serial HOWTO, describing
serial programming (though it wouldn't surprise me to discover it is
infact a "how to use a modem" howto..)

strace(1) + minicom(1) might give some hints too. (Well, hell, just
reading the minicom source might be easier.)
