Asynchronous communication over sockets

hi friends,
I got an idea of extending the Socket implementation and support
asynchronous messaging over the socket with the client.and develop an api
the user can use to communicate asynchronously in his applications.
i want to know if this has been implemented at kernel level(
obviously at application level we have many messaging servers).i want to
do this to this to implement a high performance distributed system, which
uses linux networking implementation.
	please give me your suggestions.

thanks
vamsi
