On my systems, /sbin/init is provided by the SysVinit rpm or the sysvinit deb. You can either find a SysVinit src.rpm or apt-get source the sysvinit deb, depending on which distribution you use. Richard Gooch has been working on an init replacement, simpleinit, I think it is called, that has some nice properties to it as well, but I haven't been brave enough to try it out. -- Outlook users: please do not put my email address in your address book.
