Thanks for your answer. "mplayer -v", as far as I remember, didn't showed anything strange, but I'll try again tonight and follow your suggestion. Now that you mention freetype, I'll check if un update occurred between the compilation of the two mplayer's versions I tried and I'll compare my font configuration.
