Once I eliminated that, I was able to install skype, > openssh, etc. I have run into this problem before and have found it is best to just periodically purge all but the most "official-looking" repositories I have in the Application Manager. This is annoying, as then I have to go back and find and re-enter the repositories that I need. Mayber there is some logging somewhere that tells you exactly what is failing. I haven't found it yet.
