That's what I had in mind, thanks. (Either that or put the $250 toward a handheld device that actually has VGA out)
 
I don't see the lack of powerpoint as all that big a problem (unless this device somehow relies on quickpoint and is not really a VGA adaptor). I think it would be reasonable to create presentations in some linux package, export them to PDF, page through the PDF at the presentation and then hand out electronic copies of the PDF afterwards. (Of course, I never did like the fancy slide transitions).
