One down, one to go: With your advice (the menu navigation in IT2005 might be slightly different, but close enough for me), I was able to get the LG VX8300 working with the Nokia 770 in the EVDO high speed data mode. No changes were necessary from default configuration when I created a new connection of type "packet data". This solved my first requirement, so now the 770 can travel with me in lieu of a fat laptop. Somewhere I recall a bluetooth/cellphone interoperability table referred to me recently - this phone was not mentioned, but could be added as a success story. The second requirement - dial-up connection also delivered via the same phone and blueooth --- this did not work when tested, but it is close, although the problem is not with certainty in the 770/IT2005: I'll describe the setup and see if anyone would care to comment: WHERE HELP IS STILL NEEDED: In the dial-up configuration case, I am dialing into a Redhat 9 box (yes, it's old, I know.....) which has a modem attached to a dedicated regular telephone line. I was able to create a second connection specification in the Nokia 770 (of type "data call"), and when commanded, the call was placed through the phone and the modem at the other end answered and did carrier negotiation (I think successfully). At that point, the PPP protocol setup did not complete, and the connection timed out without going active. There are logfiles and such, but each of these calls uses minutes from my (now somewhat depleted) allocation from Verizon, so I would like to avoid re-inventing the wheel if someone has soled this. So this is actually a question posed to someone that might be familiar with the PPP stack and dialer in the 770 and has achieved a connection between the 770 and a linux box of this sort (which is running mgetty 1.1.30-4, on a linux kernel 2.4.22). If there's anyone reading this thread that could comment/advise, I'd be very grateful. Anyway, I'm pleased to report that the 770 seems to like the LG VX8300 bluetooth, which is good news.
