The issue is very different for me.  Here in the US, each phone vendor
uses different technologies, tries to prevent you from using a phone
bought anywhere else but from them, and locks you into a one or two year
contract.  If you want to buy a new phone and it's too soon, you pay about
$200 more.  That means it's very hard to change phones.

I would not want to be locked into a particular PDA just because it was
built into my phone.
