Is this a > known bug? yes - alarms don't work on Maemo so far (see the discussion about an alarm framework on maemo-developers mailinglist). Unfortunately a bug in libschedule caused gpe-calendar to freeze if you add an event with an alarm. If you want to remove the calendar database you need to remove the file .gpe/calendar in the the users home directory.
