[maemo-users] Can't add feeds to News reader app, "Unable to add feed. Address invalid" error.

Hi all,

I've narrowed down the issues which stop me from using the news reader app.

First of all, the news reader app does not appear to obey the proxy if one uses
an automatic proxy configuration file. Here's a capture from tcpdump in
Ethereal format (with the automatic proxy configuration file turned on):
http://people.bath.ac.uk/enpsgp/Zaurus/temp/dump.auto.news.log

Secondly, if I specify an address manually for the proxy server, it doesn't work
as my DNS server replies to say that it doesn't know about the proxy server's
name. Log file:
http://people.bath.ac.uk/enpsgp/Zaurus/temp/dump.manual_all.news.log

This is odd, as with exactly the same settings (manual proxy server address
set), the web browser app works fine. Log file:
http://people.bath.ac.uk/enpsgp/Zaurus/temp/dump.manual_all.web.log

There is presumably something about the requests which the news reader app is
making which my DNS server doesn't like; I don't know whether this is an issue
with the DNS server, or with the news reader app itself, and would be grateful
for any help anyone can give me.

The fact that the news reader doesn't heed the proxy server if specified in an
automatic config file seems to be a definite bug to me and I will submit a
report about it unless anyone has an explanation?

Thanks,

Simon
