I bet it is the TTLS credentials (user name, password, etc). The actual
device certificates are embedded in the device, there is no way (or
need) for them to modify them.

Without being able to tell what they are exactly, I don't really know.
You could try to ask them.

Clearwire, for example, just does MAC level authentication, you
associate your MAC address to your account and are good to go, there is
no extra authentication (ok, I am kind of lying here, your login name is
MACADDRESS at clearwire-wmx.net <or similar>)).
