I should've mentioned that the number of errors at last restart
diminished considerably, but maybe it is just accidental. I noticed
similar things on 3.8 too. Sometimes it's 4, sometimes it's 40.
Here is the current dmesg from 3.9 gir master with the suggested
changes.

Alan, I'm happy to say that the errors disappeared. I recompiled the
latest master from torvalds with USB_CONFIG=Y instead of 'm' and the
errors are gone. I'm not sure it was this particular config flag + the
settings you suggested earlier or simply the changes that were
incorporated into the latest master but everything is working perfectly now.
