Find a problem and fix it and send a patch to the people that the
scripts/get_maintainer.pl file tells you to when you run it on your
patch.

Yes it is.

There's also the files drivers/staging/*/TODO that list a lot of things
left to do with the staging drivers if you want to help out there.
