Hi, some time ago, there was a thread about a problem with USB-UMTS-sticks and the "option_instat_callback: error -71" message, but there wasn't any solution. I also didn't find a solution anywhere in the net. But I think I know the reason for these errors, and I would like to let you know: This seems to be a USB bus power issue. USB-UMTS-sticks need much energy (USB-descriptor: 500mA), and this seems to be problematic with longer USB cables. Using a shorter USB cable (<2m) or a powered hub directly before the UMTS-stick resolved the problem for me. Test results (ZTE / Vodafone K3565-Z or Huawei K3567-HV, Debian Squeeze): - no USB cable: OK - 1.8m USB cable: OK - 3m/5m USB cable: dis-/reconnects, error -71 or -108 - 3m/5m USB cable + passive Hub: "insufficient bus power" - 3m/5m USB cable + powered Hub: OK regards Roland Koebler -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-usb" in the body of a message to majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx More majordomo info at http://vger.kernel.org/majordomo-info.html
