If you're not familiar with Linux then perhaps you don't realize that quite a few quirks are already publicly exposed in the source code for Linux's USB controller drivers. I expect the same is true for other Open Source operating systems, although I haven't checked. Out of curiosity, how large is your market? That is, how many people do you think will want to write their own USB controller driver starting from scratch?
