Wow, that's ugly.  Can you turn on CONFIG_USB_XHCI_HCD_DEBUGGING and
send me the dmesg?

You're probably buying the same NEC chip that's integrated from
different vendors.  When you enable debugging, you'll be able to see if
it's an NEC chip, and which firmware version it's running.

I'm glad there's a fix for you, but I'd like to make sure that the xHCI
driver is responding properly to any errors that the xHCI host generates
because of the nouveau driver.
