Let me check. Unfortunately many files that are required to support our platform are not yet in the git (we are beginning with 2.6.34) so I do not know how a bisect will cope with the patches we now add "manually"

Does your I2S interface share the same IRQ line as the EHCI controller?
That could explain a lot.  (But not why 2.6.19 behaved differently from
2.6.27.)

No, the IRQ lines are different, line 10 for I2S and 58 and 60 for the two USB controllers...
