Sure they work the same way. Minor differences, assuming that they
actually matter, can easily be handled with device-specific options. Why
duplicate the whole code?

Other drivers do the same sort of thing, sume in an even more intrusive
way.

If it's a problem, just s/option/gsmmodem/g or whatever. I'm the last
person to insist on keeping the name.
