Re: Speakup not in Ubuntu 21.04/Hirsute

oops, I see that I made a typo below. I upgraded from 20.10/Groovy to 21.04/Hirsute. With the pandemic, I keep getting 2020 and 2021 mixed up. It seems like we should just redo 2020.

Anyway, I am pretty sure speakup worked in ubuntu Groovy. That makes sense because Groovy has a 5.8 kernel, before speakup was moved into mainstream. I would guess that what happened is that when speakup was moved from staging to mainstream, it didn't get compiled for the Ubuntu 5.11 kernel. Just a bug.

Since my last message, i recompiled a kernel and it is working. So it's just a matter of getting ubuntu to check those boxes in menuconfig.

John,

Do you mean that you upgraded from 20.04 to Ubuntu 21.04/Hirsute?

It looks to me as if speakup did not get compiled into the kernel package for Ubuntu 21.04/Hirsute. I upgraded to 20.04 and the 5.11.0-18 kernel and now I can't even load the speakup module. There's no file speakup.ko on the system and grepping the kernel config file for "SPEAKUP" yields nothing.

I'd like to file a bug report with Canonical but I can't figure out how to create a Launchpad account. I went to the Ubuntu wiki and found a page on reporting bugs. But when I click on the link to create a Launchpad account, I get nothing. Very frustrating, thwarted at every turn.
