Well David, while I cannot exactly answer your question, I can tell you that
Slackware seems to more natively support DecTalk. Back in 2003 I had a dule boot
system in Fedora. At that time I had a 1994 DecPC card which ran real nicely in
windows-and-DOS, but in Speakup, it was quite unresponsive. I would hit an
up-arrow, it would not easily inturrup. Some years later I got a DecTalk U S B
unit. While there are certainly frustrations in Speakup, at least it is a more
natural experience. Hope that helps a bit.
