localhost dictionaries: easier than I thought

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi all,

Well, I finally read the docs! It turns out that although the server
statements are in the dict.conf client configuration, the /usr/lib/dict
file is scanned for dictionaries only when the server is started, or on
receipt of SIGHUP. It is not sufficient to simply edit dict.conf and
save the changes. As a result, copying the supplied dictionaries from
/usr/share/dict to /usr/lib/dict and then restarting the server, or
sending it the reqired signal, will update the revised file. Doing that,
I know have the desired local dictionary databases running.

Sorry for any misinformation I may have shared earlier.

The lesson, as if you didn't know: RTFM!
