I have two cards in my machine, one onboard and a Soundblaster Live Value that I have used for some time. For most distros I run on the bare metal, I need to switch my speakers to the onboard jack in order to hear speech. I generally blacklist the onboard chip's module in order to be able to use the card I want later. This isn't an ideal solution if you want to be able to use both, but it does work. If you are using both card0 and card1 for different applications, then your .asoundrc, or probably better, /etc/asound.conf idea is probably the best solution. ~Kyle http://kyle.tk/ -- "Kyle? ...
