I've actually done this. It's been a while, but here's what I remember.

You won't need speakup if you use the text console of colinux. IN fact,
speakup won't even work, although now days it might with software speach
and the audio driver for colinux. Anyway, it's unnecessary. There is a
gtk based console, which doesn't work. But the text based console just
runs in a command window and it will work with JAWS. You can also
connect to it via ssh if you need multiple command windows. The text
based console won't let you do virtual consoles, see.
