If you want to have a synth built into the kernel, (which is what you wanted from my understanding), then you need to patch speakup into the kernel, and rebuild. As John pointed out, you need to have modules compiled against the running kernel, so no, we're not there yet. I'd say the best suggestion for what you're suggesting is a livecd, but that wouldn't cover all possibilities either, (I.E. you can't reboot the machine you're sitting in front of, or can't boot it off the cd drive).
