The problem with that I downloaded happened with grub install. The parameters entered on the command line were nowhere to be found in /target/boot/grub/menu.lst when I checked it with nano before the reboot. Since you didn't install with that CD, we don't know if grub or lilo would work correctly. I think what I will do for now is do another install on a different machine and choose lilo and then go in and edit the append= line in the global section of lilo.conf before I reboot into the new system. If no append= line is in lilo.conf definitely something is strange but it shouldn't be difficult to fix that problem. menu.lst is a bit stucturally confusing or more so than lilo for me. The Celeron probably has a flakey motherboard and went in for repairs or replacement today.
