Reading powerpoint presentations in Linux

One possible route might be to ask for the PowerPoint to be exported
as PDF  for you. Whether Microsoft's PDF export utility makes
particularly accessible is another matter, but there are  PDF to text
tools around for Linux. It's not exactly a perfect solution, but it
may get you going.
