If you haven't done so already, you need to enable localhost to connect to it in festival.scm. Under debian, this is in the /etc directory, I don't recall off hand where it is in other distros. Chuck was dealing with this very issue a few days ago. If you still need a working copy of festival.conf, and speech.conf, I can adjust my setup to use festival again, and send those files to you. I however can't do this now, it will have to be in about 6-7 hours from now or so. So, if you still need them, and haven't gotten them by that time from someone else, speak up (grin).
