Greg - - --- forwarded message --- From: Dave <dmehler26@xxxxxxxxxx Hello, I've got a machine that's dying, it's a firewall/router and gateway for a lan. I'm going to want to replace it and at the same time i'd like to increase my Linux experience. Thus far i've been working with the Rhel and variants and first started out in Slackware. It's becoming clear at least around here that Debian, Gentoo, and Ubuntu, are in demand. I'd like to get some experience with one of these. My problem is the installation. This machine, either in it's test role or in it's permanent role as a router, will not have a monitor and keyboard on it, it's headless with all access via the network, ssh. I was wondering does either Debian, Gentoo, or Ubuntu have either a text install via serial terminal or via ssh? I'm aware of live CD's loading x and software speech at least in some cases, but as i said no monitor or keyboard. I was thinking either passing a boot parameter as in rhel, or modifying installation media, as in remastering. I know this is not speakup-specific, but if anyone has an answer to this i'd appreciate knowing about it. Thanks.
