I stand to be corrected, not having used slackware in a while, but I think you'll find that the cd/dvd-rom drive is still detected under slackware as /dev/hdx, so the ide-scsi emulation isn't why speakup is in the speakup.s, rather than speakup.i kernel, which doesn't exist of course. I think Pat decided to have speakup.s, rather than speakup.i for 2 reasons. First, speakup fit into the scsi kernel, and second, he wanted to kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak, (I.E. have one kernel with speakup, that supports both ide and most commonly used scsi adapters, rather than have 2 speakup kernels, which he didn't need to do, since he was able to configure a small enough kernel with ide, scsi, and speakup). > PS: I wish some of you guys would edit your replies and remove .the 50-odd messages. posted in their entirety, following the two cents that you've added. It's very frustrating having to listen to it all over again for no reason, especially threads like this one, which have four or more long replies being reposted over and over again. Sorry for the rant. Well, since we're ranting, can you please either turn on line wrap in your mail client, or remember to hit the enter key once in a while? I find, and I'm probably not the only one, that it is quite a pain to deal with your posts, because the lines wrap off-screen, so you have to use the review keys to read them fully, rather than using the arrow keys. This is especially noticeable when you want to reply in-line, as I've done with this message. Ok, end of rant.
