Ubuntu success

Hiya,
I'm glad to report that my installation of Ubuntu on a virtual machine was quite successful. There is a slight, barely noticeable performance hit. However, it isn't enough to cause much discomfort.
I am curious, now, as to the procedures that should be followed now that there are plans to remove Speakup from the Ubuntu distro. Should I be prepared when the next version comes out to download and compile the kernel sources with Speakup patched in myself? (I've done this on several other flavors of Linux, it isn't much of a problem. I am quite impressed with the level of access Orca is able to give to the GUI.
However, I am afraid I know the Linux console most of all and won't really like the switch.
Anyhow, I just felt I should let you guys know I managed it reasonably well. Still looking for Firefox 3...
Thanks,
Zack.
