apt-get issues in debian etch and gentoo question

Hi, Is there any installation iso image for gentoo that comtains 
speakup that works with a dectalk express or will I need to use debian 
to install gentoo?  Are there any plans to fix speakup so it works with 
kernel 2.6.22?
