Thunder is not free, it is without cost. Free is a difficult word in our language as it is used both to mean "gratis" and "without oppression." "Free software" requires it to be open source and without restriction on redistribution, Thunder does not include source and has a really strange license. NVDA is a "free" screen reader both in terms of cost and liberty. Free, as in freedom, with a lower case f. I downloaded this open source so-called screen reader, heavily built around Python 2.4, and nothing much happens. It just so happens I have Python 2.3, and 2.4, and even 2.5 all installed on one of my Windows 98SE boxes. I have configured the Autoexec.bat and the File Associations to specifically see 2.4, since that is what NVDA apparently prefers. Test routines I have prove that Python 2.4 is indeed called and working 100%. I made certain to enable the SAPI4 setting in the NVDA INI file; When I click on the NVDA.exe program, all I hear is "NVDA Started Bang!" at least that is what it sounds like to me. I do not understand how to get Windows 98SE to respond to anything under NDVA. I went to the trouble of even installing the other Python packages and still nothing is happening, the PyAA, PyTTS, Py24Com, all of it, is installed. I see no way to change the Voice or any of the other attributes NVDA is using from SAPI4. So if you know how to get this running on Windows 98SE please let me know, thanks. //Rich// ____________________________________________________________________________ ________ Do you Yahoo!?
