Not so. You may renew your license at every 10-year interval and keep  
your original callsign, regardless of your current residence. Please  
understand this distinction: your callsign is issued originally by  
your state of residence when it is obtained; once obtained, you may  
keep it and renew it until you die.

If you do decide to change your callsign based on your new state, you  
would then receive a call sequentially, as though you just got a new  
license. For instance, if I were to get a 3 call, and since I have an  
Extra class license, I would get (I think) AB3-something. On the  
other hand, you may request a vanity call as I mentioned before, at  
an additional cost.
