This may a problem with V18 of the PortAudio library which eSpeak uses.

eSpeak doesn't exit until PortAudio reports that the sound output
stream is no longer active, i.e. until the sound has finished playing.  
But V18 of PortAudio seems to report this too soon (possibly when
eSpeak stops sending it sound data, rather than when all the sound data
has been played).  V19 seems to work correctly.
