package installation problem, solved

Greg,

Well I bit the bullet and removed/purged modutils. I then successfully 
installed manpages-dev, which I was unable to do when modutils was 
present. Then, instead of reinstalling modutils, I installed 
module-init-tools instead, and checked for the presence of such things 
as depmod, insmod, modprobe, etc. They were there. So I simply left 
modutils uninstalled, rebooted, and everything came up and seems to be 
working okay.

Thanks for the ideas. It's great to have those manpages back.
