PPDB books are read using the palm reader for windows (the mac and simbion os versions do not work with speech) which can be downloaded at http://www.palmdigitalmedia.com. Also, the pdf files are not protected in any way, as long as you don't buy a secure adobe book. The secure palm books will work though, so stick with that format if you need to purchase something that is in secure format. It'll tell you in the description whether or not it's secure format or not. Hope this helps.
