hello sir i'm sorry you aare miss-construdding the title of tech as a know it all of some sorts. i am not. i am just a tech who deals more with networking and hardware than with the speakup and things. i'm vary new to speakup and new to its vast array of options and ways to tweak it. i apologize if i can't make it much clearer but this is what the system tells me when i am logged in as root when i type /proc/speakup/voice it tells me "permission denied". when i view it in a vi session i do see the zero. what do i do within this file to change the "voice output of the doubletalk lite"? i'm coming to this list hunbbly sir, seeking assistance and i tell you the title tech doesn't always mean i have the answer to questions and sometimes i ask them my self. You say "you can't access the file" and then access the | file in an editor. | I'm just a user, not a tech guy, but if you can look at the file in an | editor, then you can access it. | | I remember telling you the contents of /proc/speakup/voice was an int. | Last I heard, 0 is an int. My version of vi uses tilde to show empty | lines. So, if I open a file in vi that contains just an int (0), I will | see exactly what you describe. | | Please explain to someone who is just a user what you mean. After all, you are | the "tech". | | Kenny | | On Tue, May 03, 2005 at 07:46:16PM -0700, EPYD Productions wrote: | > this was logged in as root. and even tried opening it with vi and it was | > emty but a zero and tildes. | > Blind Tech | > website: http://www.users.qwest.net/~drjann/epyd/ | > contact info can be found on website | > email list: EPYD Radio-subscribe at yahoogroups.com | > EPYD the only place to be! | > ----- Original Message ----- | > From: "Janina Sajka" <janina at rednote.net> | > To: "Speakup is a screen review system for Linux." <speakup at braille.uwo.ca> | > Sent: Tuesday, May 03, 2005 6:44 PM | > Subject: Re: changing voice in speakup | > | > | > | EPYD Productions writes: | > | > tried accessing /proc/speakup/voice and "permission denied" | > | | > | | > | Oh dear.
